My name is Moyra Samuels. I have lived in North Kensington for over 30 years. My children have attended local schools and I have been a teacher both in a local primary school and at Kensington and Chelsea College (now Morley college) I have been engaged over the years in community campaigns to save community assets, from stopping the demolition of local estate, to saving our local library and college. I watched the Grenfell Tower fire on 14 June and the horror of the needless loss of loved ones, has kept me focussed on the struggle for justice as well as providing support to community members to sit at the decision-making table so that the north Kensington community is empowered, to take control of our recovery and healing. The strength of this communities’ health, well-being and resilience is one of the key barometers of the ways in which all the impacted communities have been supported to heal. I hope I can contribute in a small way to this healing.
