“For me, the sky represents the universality of human connectedness,” says Elaine Zaple Gulliver, an Art Psychotherapist with our NHS Dedicated Service.
Elaine is also an award-winning fine artist and sculptor, art psychotherapist, integrative psychotherapist and very proud Mother and Grandmother. She reflected on this artwork which she painted.
“I ponder that whilst land, rivers nor oceans connect us all simultaneously the sky envelops us wherever we are on our planet. We can observe the sky encompassing us and think of loved ones on the other side of the globe, in the sure knowledge that even if their part of the sky is day to our night, we share the same sky. This profound connection can embody a sense of hope and peace.”
Her painting also reminds her of her favourite poem from Emily Dickenson, written in 1896.
“The Brain - is wider than the Sky -
For - put them side by side -
The one the other will contain
With ease - and You – beside - ”
- Emily Dickenson 1896.
