Mindfulness can help
Mindfulness is a technique that we can use anywhere, at any time to manage difficult feelings.
The Grenfell Health and Wellbeing Service has produced a series of short films to highlight how mindfulness can help us when we’re going through distressing or stressful moments.
Mindfulness is the act of paying attention to the present moment including our own thoughts, feelings and the world around us, without judgement.
In the first short film, Advia, a mental health outreach worker with the Grenfell NHS Service shares on how she practises mindfulness everyday.
“I practice mindfulness in three ways. I am Muslim and I pray five times a day, and the actions of praying and the routine of what I do while I pray grounds me.”
“Something I do when I’m really stressed, I draw circles. Lots of and lots of circles, and the feeling I have at the time of doing is, there’s a storm and as I’m doing the circles (I’m doing them extremely fast) and as I become more grounded the circle start to slow down,” says Advia.
You can watch the first film ‘mindfulness keeps me grounded’ here.
Other films in the series:
“Mindfulness is about experiencing the world”
Mindfulness and Me – “I’m a lot less reactive and more connected to people”
Mindfulness and Me – “You can practise mindfulness anywhere”
Mindfulness and Me – “It’s easy and it works”
