CNWL have today started a consultation with the public and staff to move Kensington & Chelsea CAMHS to a new central location in the the Borough; at Beatrice Place where other CAMHS services are already located.
The consultation runs from Monday 5 November to Wednesday 4 December.
There are no staff reductions – the consultation is about all current staff moving to this new location.
Transport links to Beatrice place are very good from both the north and south of the Borough.
The site is next to the Collingham Child and Family (residential) Unit, which makes for closer working between the community team and the ward team. We think this will lead to opportunities for staff to develop their skill sets and experience of both ward and community working. We also believe that this will help us develop a centre of excellence for Child and Adolescent Mental Health services in the heart of the borough.
The site is closer to Chelsea and Westminster Hospital where our emergency team work and also where our new adolescent service Lavender walk (inpatient unit) is also located.
A centralised base allow ease of access to families in the north and south of the borough and is a more efficient, and a good use of our resources. It allows us to continue to provide our services out in the community.
The future of Parkside building has yet to be decided.
David Bailey, K&C CAMHS service manager said, “I think this is the right proposal for many reasons. Clinically it enables us to work along side our colleagues in a more efficient way and opens up opportunities for new and creative ways of working. It helps us service families who live in the north and south of the borough. It enables staff to develop skills in community and ward working.
It also makes sense for financial reasons as it reduces overheads; we use every penny we can so staff see as many children as they can. Saving money on costly to run buildings help us with this goal.
“I know that Parkside clinic is in the Grenfell area and we want to discuss this proposal with the community; there is no reduction in service and work that we already do in the local schools, for instance, remains unchanged. The Grenfell Children's Health and Wellbeing Team will remain located at St Charles Hospital and will continue to work in the local schools, GP clinics, youth centres and at the Curve.”
